Installation

Below are the steps for installing and configuring version 2007 of the SMP (Sponsorship Management Program) from the 2005 version.

Pre-installation notes:

  • Download the latest SMP2007#.exe file (where # is the version letter/number combination) from the lacc-smp.org website.  Save file to c:\lacc\files.

  • Each computer running this application must have Microsoft Office Professional 2003 or XP (2002).  The 2003 version is strongly recommended.

  • The SMP application utilizes MS Access 2003 or 2002 (XP).  Access 2007 has not yet been tested.

  • SMP requires that the Outlook email program/client be installed and properly configured.  Outlook is included with Office Professional.

  • SMP assumes an active Internet connection.  A broadband connection (minimum 256) is highly recommended to efficiently handle transferring large files between the local computer and Internet server.

  • The data file, smpdata.mdb, must be located in c:\lacc on the installation computer.

Installation:

  • Locate file SMP2007#.exe in c:\lacc\files and double click on it to begin installation.  Following are some observations about this file and installation:

    • SMP2007#.exe is a self-extracting file and will lead you through the installation process. 
    • SMP2007 will automatically start after installation.
    • The SMP2005 data file smpdata.mdb will be converted for use with SMP2007.  You will receive a confirmation when the conversion is complete.
    • WinZip 10 Professional with command line support is automatically installed during the installation of SMP2007.  This program is licensed by LACC all country offices and is required by SMP to compress (zip) and uncompress (unzip) files.  Note: There have been rare occasions when WinZip 10 did not properly install during the SMP installation.  If this is your experience, go to c:\lacc\files and run file "winzip100.msi".  After installation, return to c:\lacc\files and run file "wzcline20.exe".

  • As soon as you successfully install SMP2007, please send the Country Status Report (located on the Misc. tab on the Welcome screen).

  • Copy the "Shortcut to SMP.mdb" located in "c:\LACC" to the desktop.  Open Windows Explorer and navigate to "c:\LACC".   Highlight the file "Shortcut to SMP.mdb".  While holding down the "Ctrl" key, press the "c" key.  Go to the windows desktop.  Press the right mouse button key with the cursor over an area that doesn't have any icon.  Select the option "Paste."

Note: The installation program installs a single-user version of the program that links to the data file on the local hard drive of the computer.  If the program will be installed on more than one computer sharing the data over a network, a network link will need to be established.  See Network Installations for instructions.
