Network
Installations
The LACC Sponsorship Management Program is divided into
two files. One file contains the programming (SMP.mdb). The second file contains
the data (SMPData.mdb). The most efficient network installation installs the
file that contains the programming on each computer. The second file is placed
on a single computer, server, file server or network hard drive. Each individual computer (work
station) then "links" to the data file.
Upgrading from SMP2007. If
you are upgrading SMP from SMP2007# to a newer version, and if SMP2007# is
configured for use on a network, SMP versions 2007B1 and following will detect
the network location. Therefore, the data file smpdata.mdb can be kept on
the network computer or drive.
First Installation of SMP2007# from
2005. The first installation of SMP 2007 requires that the SMPData.mdb file be located in the c:\lacc folder
on the computer where the installation will take place. After completing the installation of SMP2007,
follow these steps to configure SMP2007 for use in a network environment.
Configuring the network computer or drive:
Create and share the c:\lacc
directory on the network computer (the computer that will have the smpdata.mdb data
file) or drive (external network drive, for example).
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Navigate to My Computer, C drive.
- Create folder "lacc" if it doesn't exist.
- Right
click on the lacc directory.
- Click on the "Sharing and security" option.
- Turn on file sharing if prompted.
- Check the "Share this folder on the network" box
and the "Allow network users to change my files" box.
Install SMP2007 on the Master Remote Computer (MRC) (a computer
that is not the server, but that will connect to the server that has the data
file).
- Choose a remote computer to use for configuring the
network. This computer will be designated as the Master Remote
Computer (MRC).
- From the MRC open
Windows Explorer and navigate in "My Network Places" until you find the "LACC"
folder on the network computer or drive (shared computer or shared drive that has the smpdata.mdb
file).
- Move the file SMPData.mdb from \lacc on the network
computer or drive to c:\lacc on the MRC.
- Run SMP2007#.exe on the MRC. Download the latest version of
SMP2007#.exe and save to
c:\lacc\files.
- Double click on SMP2007#.exe and follow installation
instructions. (See Installation for additional
information.) SMP2007 will install.
- Close SMP.
Install SMP2007 on each additional remote computers. Repeat the following steps for each remote computer.
- Copy file SMP2007#.exe from
c:\lacc\files on the MRC to the other
remote computer.
- Copy file SMPData.mdb from \lacc on the MRC to c:\lacc on the remote
computer.
- Double click on SMP2007#.exe and follow installation
instructions. (See Installation for additional
information.) SMP2007 will install.
- Close SMP.
Configure SMP on the network:
- From the MRC, copy SMPData.mdb from the network
computer or drive to the c:\lacc folder on the
MRC.
- Start SMP on the MRC.
- From the Welcome screen, press the "Move smpdata.mdb
to Network Location" button located on the Network tab.
- Press the "Browse for smpdata.mdb" button and
navigate to "My Network Places" and the shared \lacc folder where the
smpdata.mdb file is located. Note: A typical network path looks
like this: "\\ComputerName\LACC". In this example, "ComputerName"
is the network name of the computer and "LACC" is the shared folder on
that drive.
- Press the "Move smpdata.mdb" button.
- Press "Close Form" button.
- Close SMP.
- Copy file SMP.mdb from
c:\lacc on the MRC to replace the file on \lacc on the network computer
or drive and to c:\lacc on all other remote
computers.
- Remove file SMPData.mdb file from all remote
computers. There should be only one copy of SMPData.mdb, and that in
the "lacc" folder on the network computer or drive.
The Linked Table Manager
may also be used to link tables from SMP.mdb to SMPData.mdb.
Photos—The network path for the location of the
photo’s directory must also be used when registering photos so that all users
will have access to the photos. A typical path using the example above
would be \\ComputerName\LACC\fotos.
