The Main Toolbar, located below the window title area, has the following items:
A) Print Preview--Shows a representation of what will print. Although it is possible to print form information, caution should be used because most forms show just the first record of several. B) Print Dialogue--The print dialogue box opens that allows the user to choose printing options. This is different than the Print (printer icon only, without the elipse) menu option on the Reports Open toolbar that directly sends the report to the printer. C) Export--Opens a dialogue box where the user is asked to choose a file format and location to save the file. Clipboard Icons: D) Undo--Undo of multiple changes E) Cut--Cuts highlighted text F) Copy--Copies highlighted text to the Windows clipboard for later use G) Paste--Copies contents of the Windows clipboard to current location (replaces any highlighted text) Find and Replace Icons: H) Find (Search)—Searches for content in form fields. Although it is possible to search all fields in a form, it is inefficient. It is best to place the cursor in a specific field and search that field only. Enter the desired value in the “Find What:” box. Press the “Find Next” button. Note that the “Look In:” box allows a search of the individual field or all the fields in the form. The search can be further limited using the “Match:” box, where the user may define how the information appears in the field. I) Find and Replace—Functions the same as search with the added feature of allowing the user to replace the current value with a new value. J) Filter By Selection (funnel with lightning bolt)—Allows the user to search a form according the value of a certain field. It yields similar results to a search, except that the user doesn’t cycle through the selections with the “Find Next” button. Instead, the “Filter By Selection” button filters out all records that don’t match the current value of the field. To use the “Filter By Selection” button, the user must click in the selected field, navigate to a record that contains the desired value, click the “Filter By Selection” button. The navigation bar will show “(filtered)” after the number of records in the filtered set. K) Filter Excluding Selection (funnel with red X). The same as the Filter By Selection except that the filter returns all values that don't match the value in the field. L) Apply/ Remove Filter (funnel)—Toggles the Filter By Selection or Advanced Filter/Sort on and off. M) Advanced Filter/Sort (funnel with pencil)—The above special filter query is opened when the “Advanced Filter/Sort” button is pressed. This allows the user to filter with multiple criteria. When the filter button is pushed, the original form is returned with the selected data set. N) and O) Sort (A/Z and Z/A with down arrow) —the left button sorts the records in ascending order (numbers, then letters). The right button sorts the records in descending order. These buttons are only available in forms. Note: A form will often sort by the last sort order utilized. P) Window--Provides access to open forms and reports, and to the Link Table Manager. Q) Exit SMP program. |
