Configuring Outlook

HOW TO configure Outlook with my country's laccoffice account

Each LACC country office has been assigned an email account on the laccoffice.org email server.  In light of the constant change of email addresses, official communications from SCO are sent to these accounts.  SMP2011 requires a properly configured email client (program) to send advisories and reports to SCO.  Each country office is expected to configure its laccoffice.org email account on that client.

Microsoft Outlook is the most commonly used email clients.  Following are the steps to configure the country laccoffice.org email account in Outlook 2010, the most recent version.  These steps will vary with earlier versions of Outlook.

  1. Open Outlook.  Click on the File tab (to the left of Home) in the menu ribbon.

  2. Press the Account Settings button.  Select Account Settings... from the drop-down list.

  3. Click on the New... control.  Click the Next button with E-mail Account selected.

  4. Select the last option "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" and click the Next button.

  5. Click the Next button with Internet E-mail selected.  Enter information in the Add New Account window:

    • SMP2011User Information
Your Name:  Enter "LACC" plus the name of your country/program (example: LACC Jamaica)
Email Address:  Enter your country name/program (see list at the bottom of the page) followed by @laccoffice.org (example: jamaica@laccoffice.org)

    • Server Information.  Enter the information as it appears to the right.

    • Logon Information
User Name:  Enter your country name/program (see list at the bottom of the page) followed by @laccoffice.org
Password:  Enter password provided by your LACC rep.  Put a check mark in the Remember password check box.

  6. Click on the "More Settings" button.  Make sure that the correct email address appears in the Mail Account field on the General tab.

  7. Click on the Outgoing Server tab.  Put a check mark in the box "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."  By default the "use same settings as my incoming mail server" radio button is selected.

  8. Click on the Advanced tab.  Replace "25" with "26" in the Outgoing server (SMTP) field.  This alternate "port" will help to ensure that emails are able to be sent since some Internet Service Providers block port 25, requiring that users use their SMTP server.  Press OK.

  9. You are returned to the Add New Account window.  Press the Next button to continue.  Outlook tests the new account.  Press OK to finish.
